Living in Kell-Aire

The Kell-Aire name reaches four separately recorded plats in Okaloosa County's roll, and they are not one thing. Kell-Aire Gardens is the residential heart, 113 parcels across about 28 acres of which 111 are coded single family; its First Addition mixes four single-family lots with three multi-family parcels and the 1.42-acre site of a Presbyterian church, and its Second Addition holds seven houses. Kell-Aire Estates is the odd one: all 22 of its lots, about 7.8 acres, stand in the ownership of the Okaloosa County Board of County Commissioners with no year built recorded against any of them, and the plat lies more than a mile east of the Gardens streets, out by the airfield. The Gardens houses date from 1978 through the early 1990s with the middle of the range at 1985 and the earliest recorded construction in the Second Addition reaching back to 1977, so this is the generation of Destin housing that went up as the city was becoming a city.
