Living in Eastern Lake

Eastern Lake is both the water and the address, and the water comes with a ramp. Walton County counts fifteen named coastal dune lakes and names three of them, Powell, Western and Eastern, as the ones with a boat ramp to launch from. This lake's ramp sits at a county park on Lakewood Drive, and the county lists a second public access point where South Gulf Drive meets Eastern Lake Road. Kayaking, boating, fishing and bird-watching are the uses the county records against this lake, a longer list than it records for most of the others, several of which it marks for bird-watching alone. Scenic 30A does not pass this lake, it crosses it. Federal hydrography maps Eastern Lake as two basins meeting at a narrow waist the road bridges: roughly 21 acres north of 30A and roughly 45 acres south of it, the southern basin running down toward the beach. So the road splits the shoreline into two separate frontages rather than one, and which basin a street faces changes what the address is. The Timpoochee Trail runs along 30A past both. Half a mile east of this lake's eastern shore the next dune lake begins, Deer Lake, and Deer Lake State Park is the public access point the county lists for it. No county overlay governs building on this ground. Walton County's neighborhood planning program has produced adopted plans for eight communities in the south end, among them Grayton Beach, Old Seagrove, Blue Mountain Beach and Inlet Beach, and Eastern Lake is not one of them. Nothing at that level fixes a height, a use list or a bedroom count here, so what a specific lot may hold comes from the county's general code and from the restrictions recorded against the parcel itself. That is a question for the documents, one address at a time. Guest use answers to the same two documents. Walton County runs a registration office that puts every short-term rental in the county on a yearly cycle, with fees adopted by county resolution and a daily charge for operating unregistered, and the restrictions recorded against the individual lot decide the rest. No posture attaches to the lake as a whole.
